POWERtalk keynote address:

ITC International President, Terrie Baxter, Brisbane-Australia, Convention July 2007

International Training in Communication creates a better world tomorrow by training communicators and developing leaders today.

EXACTLY WHAT IS ITC?

ITC is a self-development communication organization that specializes in speaking and leadership skills. It began in 1938 in California and now encompasses countries throughout the world. Our name was changed from Toastmistress in 1985 to accommodate the growing number of men who belong to ITC.

WHAT MAKES ITC BETTER THAN OTHER SIMILAR ORGANIZATIONS?

ITC turns the fear of speaking into fun. ITC members will tell you that the special benefit of ITC is the warm, supportive atmosphere that surrounds the program. People join ITC for the training and stay for the friendship. Regular practice and evaluation ensures continuous improvement.

ITC training program is much more versatile and widespread than many others. Our Master Manual is one of the best training tools you will find. The global aspect and opportunity to meet people from all parts of the world is a very attractive benefit.

Whether you are seeking to gain confidence in all speaking situations, become a better listener or leader, or learn meeting management and parliamentary procedure, there are excellent resources and material available.

HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?

ITC is established in many countries around the world. The first step is to find and visit a club near you. You will find:

  • Although every club follows the ITC program, each one has its own special atmosphere and benefits.
  • Clubs meet anywhere from once a week to once a month, depending on the needs of the members.
  • Programs encompass all aspects of communication with assignments that are from 30 seconds to two hours long.
  • New members receive the outstanding Master Manual that provides guidelines for every assignment and can work at their own pace.
  • Each assignment is evaluated in a constructive, positive manner to allow the members to learn and grow in a comfortable atmosphere.
  • ITC has a five level accreditation program that allows members to set personal communication and leadership goals and receive credit for their assignments.
  • ITC has four levels of participation, with ascending levels of leadership involvement available at each level.
  • Leadership development is obtained through taking office at each level and participating in committee work.
